    Poda Lifestyle and Wellness expects to receive patent protection for its Poda zero-cleaning heat-not-burn (HnB) technology in Europe and the United States soon.

    The Poda system uses proprietary biodegradable single-use pods. The design prevents cross-contamination between the heating devices and the pods, eliminating cleaning requirements and providing users with a convenient and enjoyable potentially reduced-risk smoking experience.

    The company’s says its pods are the first and only cigarettes to have a completely closed end. A closed-ended cigarette utilizing HnB heating technology allows for an ashless experience and provides for consistent quality each time a new pod is inserted into the heating device.

    Poda Lifestyle and Wellness’ research and development commenced in January 2015. The Poda zero-cleaning technology was granted a Canadian patent in 2018 with patent entries filed in more than 65 additional countries.

    “We have spent years of research and development with regards to our invention and are very pleased to see that our invention has been granted a patent in Canada,” said Poda CEO Ryan Selby in a statement.

    “We have filed for patents in 65 other countries and expect USA and European patents to follow in short order now that we have received the Canadian patent.”

    Humble CBD is available in five product formats: a balm, a chewable, a dropper, a softgel and a twist.

    Innokin Launches First 4th-Generation Vape Device, Sensis

    Innokin, a major China-based vaping hardware manufacturer, announced its partnership with Fourier Technology in the development of Sensis, the first vaporizer that uses 4th-generation vape technology. The new innovation, alternating current mode (ACM), is inspired by Nikola Tesla, according to an Innokin press release. Earlier generations of vaping hardware used a direct current to power coils in a single direction, while ACM sends electricity through the coil in both directions.

    The mission behind the development of the ACM technology is to provide vapers with a better experience and to provide the vaping industry with new ways to grow and improve, according to Meredith Zhao, chief technology officer at Fourier Technology.

    “We are looking forward to working with experienced users to discover the full potential of this exciting new vape technology in the hope of working together to create a smoke-free future,” said Zhao. “Alternating current mode introduces waveform frequency control to vaping. Vapers can now adjust the hertz frequency waveforms as well as the wattage output.”

    The upgraded output provides several advantages over previous generation single-direction current devices. By selecting different types of waveforms and adjusting the frequency, the full spectrum of flavors can be produced from e-liquids and specific flavors are enhanced, according to the release. ACM increases the efficiency of heat transfer between the coil and e-liquid, which also extends coil life. “Alternating Current Mode has been shown to help extend coil life by increasing coil saturation and reducing carbon buildup on coils,” Zhao said.

    First-generation vape technology was basic, where direct power output to the coils could not be adjusted. With the push of a button, or by simply inhaling, the battery heated coils, changing the e-liquid into vapor to deliver nicotine and flavors. Second-generation vape technology introduced variable voltage and variable wattage, where adjusting the power output to the coils increases or decreases heat to personal taste. Third-generation technology used temperature control with advanced chipsets and new types of coil materials.

    ACM technology allows vapers to customize their vaping experience, according to the Fourier’s website. “ACM equips you with adjustable frequency and selectable AC wave-forms, which create a unique output curve,” the company states. “Power output repeatedly pulses the coil in both directions, heating e-liquid more efficiently, in a way that can be fine-tuned at any time.”

    Cerulean has launched a new stand-alone Aerosol Temperature Measurement System (ATMS), the company announced on its website.

    The ATMS is designed for research and quality assurance applications to measure the temperature of aerosol generated from e-cigarettes and heated-tobacco products.

    The ATMS monitors and records aerosol temperature on a puff-by-puff basis in real time and is available in multiholder configurations of one, four, five, eight, 10 and 20 channels.

    Comprising a supplied portable computer with an intuitive user interface and ISO-compliant Cambridge Filter Holders, the ATMS can be fitted to any vaping machine and will record and display in real time the aerosol temperate during the experiment.

    Japan Tobacco International (JTI) has launched its Ploom S heated-tobaccodevice in the U.K., reports The Grocer.

    The product will be sold through two Ploom-branded lounges in London, Ploompop-up shops, online at www.ploom.co.uk and through accredited retailers.

    The device is used with tobacco sticks, which are sold separately. The tobaccosticks will be available in four different flavors—flavored tobacco, smoothtobacco, menthol and menthol/berry. The Ploom S device will have arecommended retail price of £89 ($116.06) and the consumables will have arecommended retail price of £4.50 for a pack of 20 sticks.

    “The time is right for JTI to enter this exciting growth segment in the U.K. with aproven product that continues to grow in markets in which we have alreadylaunched,” said JTI U.K. General Manager Dean Gilfillan.

    Ploom S is the second tobacco-heating system available in the U.K., after PhilipMorris International’s IQOS, which launched in 2016.

    Previously, JTI launched Ploom in Japan, Russia and Italy.
