Philip Morris International has launched IQOS Iluma i, the latest and most innovative addition to its growing portfolio of smoke-free products, in Japan. The launch marks the 10-year anniversary of IQOS, which debuted in Nagoya, Japan, in 2014.

“We leverage science, world leading brands and commercial capabilities to provide better alternatives to our consumers. This anniversary provides an opportunity to renew our smoke-free vision and our ambition for over two-thirds of our total net revenue to come from smoke-free products by 2030,” said PMI CEO Jacek Olczak in a statement.

“IQOS Iluma disrupted the category by introducing induction-heating technology that heats tobacco from within, to provide a consistent taste experience, no tobacco residue, and no need to clean the device. Today, we take IQOS to new heights, with the launch of IQOS Iluma i—the latest innovation in our smoke-free portfolio, offering a range of advanced features for a clean, seamless, and more flexible experience.”

The IQOS Iluma i series offers three devices in Japan: IQOS Iluma i PRIME, IQOS Iluma i and IQOS Iluma i ONE. All three devices bring a range of adaptable new features.

The new touch screen on the device’s holder allows users to see experience-relevant information quickly and easily. To personalize the experience, IQOS Iluma i introduces a new pause mode. By swiping up or down on the touch screen, users can pause and resume their consumption according to their preferences.

The new IQOS Iluma i also includes smart features that help prolong the lifespan of the holder’s battery. Furthermore, the door for IQOS Iluma i is made from aluminum produced with renewable energy and the inner textile layer of IQOS Iluma i’s Prime leather-like wrap is made of 100 percent recycled plastic.

“IQOS Iluma i is our most innovative offering to date and the new flagship in our portfolio of scientifically substantiated, heat-not-burn smoke-free systems,” said Bertrand Bonvin, president heat-not-burn platforms at PMI. “Like previous IQOS devices, it emits, on average, 95 percent lower levels of harmful chemicals compared with cigarettes. We are proud that consumer feedback continuously fuels our innovation, and IQOS Iluma i is a testament to that.”

New Zealand has First Home-Grown Cannabis Vapes

    Helius CEO Carmen Doran

In New Zealand, two new medicinal cannabis products have been verified as meeting the quality standard for legal sale. This follows Helius, a week earlier, being the first New Zealand company to receive GMP certification to produce THC extracts and manufacture medicines containing THC.

“We are very pleased to bring more NZ grown, NZ made medicinal cannabis products to Kiwi patients,” says Carmen Doran, chief executive of Helius Therapeutics. The launch of two new medicines into the New Zealand market makes a total of four new medicines from Helius in 2022. It brings Helius’ portfolio of products to six, according to an email sent to Vapor Voice.

“In mid-December we were able to announce GACP certification, and since then we’ve also obtained GMP certification for four more processes at our East Auckland site. Such progress is testament to the culture of teamwork Helius is building,” she says.

Helius is New Zealand’s only company to have GMP certification for extraction and manufacture of CBD and THC medicines. What’s more, it is now one of two companies (the other being Nubu Pharma) who have six products verified as meeting the minimum quality standard in New Zealand.

The latest products will be exported in 2023 to Helius customers in Europe.

“The THC containing products have had considerable interest internationally, with GMP manufactured products gaining a lot of attention globally as the medical markets continue to grow. We have seen particular interest in balanced, full spectrum medicinal cannabis formulations,” says Doran.

With the launch of these products, New Zealand patients now have access to NZ made products across the spectrum of oral solutions. No longer do they have to rely on imported products which have had supply delays throughout 2022 and can be priced considerably higher.

Charlie’s Pachamama Disposables Sell Out in 21 Days

Charlie’s Holdings, parent to the Charlie’s Chalk Dust and Pachamama brands of vapor and CBD products, announced today that its Pachamama Disposables e-cigarettes are the fastest selling new product in the company’s history. Introduced to the U.S. market last month,  the company says it sold out of its entire initial stock in fewer than 21 days, according to a press release.

“It is estimated that more than 20 percent of the world’s population consumes nicotine in some format. As a company, we believe that our new technologies and products can provide adult consumers with a better, more responsible and therefore more enjoyable means of experiencing nicotine,,” Brandon Stump, CEO of Charlie’s Holdings, said. “Now that we have launched Pachamama Disposables in the United States, later this year our distribution will expand into more than 75 international markets where we expect to introduce millions of adult consumers to the extraordinary Pachamama sensory experience. We are very excited about what this launch – and the new $600 million market opportunity – will mean for our customers and our company.”

Market share data shows that disposable e-cigarettes already represent a $600 million – and growing – market in the $7 billion total U.S. e-cigarette market, according to the release. The company launched the disposable product to meet the needs of consumers by providing an “adult-only, recreational use, consumer product that is simple to use, discreet, and immensely satisfying.”

Earlier this month, Charlie’s Holdings announced that it has closed a $3 million capital raise through the private sale of 351,669,883 shares of common stock to the company’s founders, Brandon Stump, CEO, and Ryan Stump, COO, according to a press release. The company intends to use the proceeds from the offering to drive substantial future growth, facilitate new product launches, increase working capital, retire outstanding debt, and for other general corporate purposes.

David Allen, CFO said the proceeds from the private placement will strengthen the company’s balance sheet, accelerate European growth, allow for expansion into the Middle East, and facilitate the company reaching several important near-term milestones, including the FDA’s anticipated announcement of Charlie’s successful PMTA.
